Vicente Climent, a sailor from the RCN of El Puerto de Santa María, was crowned Spanish Patín a Vela Veterans champion this Saturday after four days and six races, the final round of the national championship held in Altafulla (Tarragona).
Very light winds marked this year’s 67th edition of the Spanish championship, which brought together a total of 87 entrants, two of them representatives of the Andalusian Sailing Federation, Climent himself, and Luis Alfonso Pérez Nogues, who finished 14th with bad luck on the final day.
Catalan Peco Mulet is the new national champion, replacing Seville’s Juan Luis Páez, who had a great time winning the Audi MedCup Cartagena Trophy aboard the GP42 “Caser Madrid.” The podium was completed by Oriol Castellá and Gerard Delmas.
Vicente Climent was ultimately the best of the Andalusians, adding his top national title to that of European Cup champion. Climent put in an excellent final sprint that took him to 10th place overall and victory in the Veterans category. The opposite was true for Luis Alfonso Pérez Nogues of CV Bahía de Cádiz, whose fifth place finish was cancelled out by a black flag. In the end, Pérez Nogues had to settle for 14th.
